Gut Flora Replacement Therapy

Gut Flora Replacement Thereapy is a cutting-edge, non-invasive treatment designed to restore the balance of beneficial bacteria in your gut, supporting optimal digestive health, boosting immunity, and enhancing overall wellbeing.

Background and Research

Most people have heard of Faecal Microbiome Transplantation (FMT), which is a well-researched area. FMT, also known as a stool transplant, transfers faecal bacteria and other microbes from a healthy individual into another individual. It is an effective and recognised treatment for Clostridioides difficile infection but has also been used for other chronic conditions.

However, since the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a high risk of having other people’s faecal bacteria transplanted. Thus, we recommend Gut Flora Replacement Therapy (GFRT) instead of FMT. What is GFRT? It is implanting approved probiotics into the colon in a similar way that FMT has been done. This probiotic implant is a mixture of well-known high-dose probiotic products used in the study, which you can read about here.

You can read another research paper here, in which they analysed the correlation between compromised microbiota and certain chronic diseases. Of course, we do not know whether reversing dysbiosis will influence the symptomology of those conditions; however, we do know that our microbiota plays a vital role in our overall health.

Your Microbiome Map

Before embarking on a GFRT treatment, we suggest checking how your microbiota presents. Our current suggested stool test is YourGutMap Microbiome stool test, a simple home stool swab run by an accredited laboratory. The 40-page report offers detailed health insights based on your current microbiome imbalances. The report includes a personal nutrition guide, with a scoring system including 300 foods and drinks. Adjusting the diet following this guide has been proven in published studies to rebalance the microbiome and achieve several positive health outcomes naturally.

We know that probiotics alone are insufficient to enhance our microbiota, but diet is a huge contributor. As mentioned, the YourGutMap includes a scoring system for 300 foods and drinks. Depending on the status of your gut bacterial population, you will have these foods and drinks categorised as avoid, neutral and increase consumption. Based on your results, we will provide you with a personalised recipe book according to your test results.

We recommend doing a stool test before your GFRT treatment and following up 2 to 3 months later to assess how your gut microbiota has established over time. Although running a stool test before GFRT is not compulsory, it is highly advised, as we believe a personalised diet increases the success of GFRT.

More about GFRT Treatment

The GFRT needs to be started with colonic hydrotherapy treatment. Based on our experience as Colonic Hydrotherapists, we know that if you have colonic treatments, one colonic before GFRT will probably be enough. However, if you have never had colonics or if your last treatment was more than 3 months ago, you will probably need to have 3 colonic treatments before the series of GFRT implants. Please contact us at hello@wholeharmony.co.uk if you have recently had colonics or contraindications to colonic hydrotherapy, as we can still administer the GFRT treatment.

GFRT Protocol in Our Worcester Park Clinic

The 3 colonic hydrotherapy treatments will be booked within one week. The first implant will be administered during the third colonic treatment. There is a strict protocol for the ten implants: the first week, you will get five daily, with a 2-day break, and the second week, another five daily.
