Functional Medicine

Functional Medicine

Functional Medicine is a scientific and systematic approach towards chronic health conditions, that takes into account lifestyle, genetic and environmental factors to provide answers and personalised solutions to the root causes of underlying health issues. Where conventional medicine works to cure symptoms experienced by many, Functional Medicine concentrates on the individual, with a thorough examination of the client’s history and their health as a whole. Through nutritional and lifestyle consultations, mindset transformation, functional lab testing and supplement support, all our recommendations are personalised for every single client to help improve their health and well-being immediately and for the long-term. The theory behind the personalised approach is bioindividuality, which means each individual is unique and we cannot use the same approach for everybody.

Advanced Functional Medicine Tests

If you want to take charge of your health and be proactive in preventing disease your that maybe your parents suffered, there is so much you can do!

Advanced functional medicine testing may help to dive deep into potential underlying causes of your health concerns.

We offer a range of advanced tests including:

Genetic testing – We all know that the genes are not our destiny. However, they can give us valuable information on your ‘weak’ points such as predisposition to inflammation, oxidative stress, slower detoxification. They will also allow us to see how you process certain nutrients, hormones, toxins. We also offer specific genetic test profiles:

DNA Diet: Tests gene variations that impact metabolism, absorption and storage of fats and carbs, as well as eating behaviour to understand how an individual’s genetic profile will impact response to various eating plans.

DNA Skin: Tests for 19 gene variations involved in firmness and elasticity; sun sensitivity & pigmentation; sun damage, protection & repair, antioxidant status; inflammation.

DNA Health: Tests for 36 gene variations linked to risk for disease of lifestyle: cholesterol metabolism, bone osteoporosis; methylation and risk for cancer; inflammation and oxidative stress; detoxification; insulin sensitivity and risk for diabetes; food responsiveness, including lactose intolerance, caffeine processing, salt sensitivity and blood pressure & iron overload disorders.

DNA Sport: Reports on structural integrity of soft tissues inflammation & oxidative stress, blood flow & respiration, energy during exercise, fuel during exercise, caffeine metabolism, muscle and bone composition, aerobic capacity, power/strength.

DNA Mind: Analyses 30 genes across: Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, cognitive decline, risk for alcohol, nicotine, cannabis & opioid dependence, psychosis response from cannabis use, eating disorders (binge eating), risk-taking behaviour, mood disorders; depression, bipolar, anxiety and post-traumatic stress.

DNA Oestrogen: Personalised reports on variations in key genes involved in metabolising oestrogen and related compounds; intervention strategies for carriers of high-risk genetic variations; personal risk factors associated with HRT, oral contraceptives, bioidentical supplementation and in vitro fertilization.

Personalised report identifies the level of impact of the respective genetic variations and an explanation of their impact on the respective area.

We offer genetic tests which specifically focus on skin health and give us information on your predisposition to inflammation, oxidative stress, collagen production. Advanced nutritional tests show the current imbalance in your nutrient status and hormonal tests may reveal underlying hormonal imbalances contributing to your skin condition. In addition, the gut test can give us an amazing overview of what is happening in your gut and will help us to discover the gut-skin connection, while food sensitivity test combined with clinical symptoms may highlight which foods may be problematic.

Nutritional tests – The optimal nutrient status is critical to health and wellbeing. However, most of us do not get enough healthy nutrients every day. With advanced testing, we can go deep and see how you metabolise nutrients, how you produce energy, how you cope with oxidative stress and much more.

Gut test – By now everyone heard about the gut microbiome. Those trillions of gut bacteria have a profound effect on our health including our mood, weight, skin, digestion and nearly every organ in our body. Comprehensive gut tests allow us to understand your digestion, level of inflammation, the balance between beneficial bacteria and the presence of parasites. They can answer questions on digestive symptoms and other chronic health conditions

Food sensitivity tests – when used in combination with the elimination diet and a process of rebuilding oral tolerance and gut health may be a useful tool in establishing what you react to.

Hormonal tests – We provide advanced hormonal tests which give us information on the stress hormones levels, as wells other hormones’ metabolism, such as oestrogens or male hormones. They may be valuable in situations where hormonal imbalance may be suspected.
